Self-taught Australian artist Shannon Heath will travel to Melbourne this MONTH to exhibit her latest work in Fitzroy's At The Above gallery. INTO CALM will run between 6th - 15th September 2024. Reflecting her long tenure as a designer known for specialising in textiles, print and colour, Heath's use of ethereal, neon-pastel palettes builds layers in dramatically emotive tableaux. Underpinned by her layering and extraction methods (primarily with acrylics, oil sticks and non-traditional painting tools), Heath's latest body of work examines meditation and detachment amidst a constant bombardment of information and noise. Exploring how we can better adapt to change, and see what’s possible through the seemingly simple act of retreating into calm, Heath's fluid, orb-like forms and expressive transparencies become a metaphor for dropping in and out of the state of consciousness. This is a body of work inviting the viewer to let go. Shannon Heath is an Australian artist residing on the Tweed Coast Bundjalung Nation. After graduating University with a BA in Design, Heath enjoyed a decade-long career as a designer in the international fashion industry before returning to less-digital methods of creating, and the inner calling of painting.
