After spending several months sketching and painting on Magnetic Island, off the coast of Queensland Dettmer started putting together a body of landscape paintings. He then refined these sketches to make his large simplified landscape paintings. These works ultimately deal with light, nature and Dettmer’s own painting vernacular. The works becoming their own language as they’re repetitively remade using themselves as reference.
