In October, elite snowboarders from around the world gather in Saas Fee, Switzerland, to kick off their winter season at a high-altitude snow park with big jumps and a large halfpipe. Ari Marcopoulos was there to film American Olympian Lucas Foster, but also photographed top riders like Japanese Olympic gold medalist Ayumu Hirano, his brother Kaishu, known for the highest air in competition, and Korean Chaeun Lee, who later became halfpipe world champion at age 16. The video and accompanying book, titled Butter, reflect the riders' term for performing tricks smoothly and with personal style.
